1996 is the S1500's 10th Anniversary !!!

The S1500 series of Unix servers was introduced by Texas Instruments in 1986. From the beginning, the S1500 was concepted as a multiprocessor- capable system. Several different S1500 systems were produced:

• S1520 - 6 NuBus slots with up to 4 (5?) CPU boards
• S1505 - single-CPU system in minitower style (CPU 68030@25 MHz)
• S1507 - single-CPU system in minitower style (CPU 68040@25 MHz)
• S1508 - dual-CPU system in minitower style (2 68040 CPUs @ 25 MHz)
• S1580 - rackmount 1500 system - I don't have any information on these ...

The 1500's operating system, TI Unix, was derived from AT&T System V Release 3. The final release is TI Unix 3.3.2. TI added several extensions to the stock AT&T System V :

• Multiprocessor support - up to 4 CPU's are supported by TI Unix
• TI's bsh ("business shell") - an extension of csh
• various tools to support system administration (devadm etc.)
• the tx editor and the dfm file browser. tx was a look-alike to the editor used on the 990 series DX10 operating system.

In 1992, TI sold the complete Unix system division to Hewlett Packard (hp).
